Agnes Stella, don't give up...

Yet another smart girl, AGNES STELLA, a +2 student from St. Mary's HSS, Vettucaud, has gone up to the State Youth Festival to prove her metal in English Recitation. But fortune was not on her side and hence had to be contended with a B grade only this time. She qualified herself for this higly competitive slot after grabing A grade in the District level Youth Festival.

Our wish is that she keeps her spirit up till she proves herself in the years to come by achieving still higher heights of glory. Our students can indeed achieve still better acolauds, provided we direct them properly and encourage them after instilling in them greater confidence.

Don't take another chance please...

HC seeks progress report on toilet facilities at Govt schools (Express News Service, Kochi, Januray 28)

The Kerala High Court on Friday asked the Secretary of the Education Department to submit the progress report in connection with providing drinking water facilities and toilet facilities at aided and government schools in the state by March 1.
A Division Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice S S Satheeshchandran issued the directive after finding that the Directorate of Public Instruction failed to achieve expected progress in the matter.
The court asked the Secretary of the Education Department to be present before the court to explain the details of facilities provided at schools.
The court had earlier directed the State Government to ensure that toilets, urinals and drinking water facilities were provided at all aided and government schools.
The Bench had ordered the Director of Public Instruction (DPI) to ensure that such facilities were provided at all aided schools as well.
The court issued the directive while considering a contempt of court petition filed before the court complaining that the authorities failed to comply with the court order. [The New Indian Express/ Saturday, January 29, 2011/ Thiruvananthapuram. p.6]

Schools 'to be run' by the unruly...

"Vox populi vox dei" is a saying meaning that the voice of the people is the voice of God. As people get civilized, this trend also got refined and that is called democracy and the contrary is said to be mobocracy. Democracy is not absolute, but it is representative and such respresentative system is in place almost everywhere, even in the church called Parish Councils. But when the so-called leaders could not digest some of the legal proceedings they could instigate people and make them take recourse to mobocracy and that was what took place in one of our schools in connection with a transfer.
They forced the head of the school not to comply with the orders and when the transfering authority himself came, the crowd didn't give in, rather made a scene which could anytime go violent! Hence, he could only get back, though he could have very well sought the help of the police to implement his rightful orders. This went on even after the higher authorities interfered and gave specific orders to carry on with the orders issued. Almost after two weeks, the transfer was effected only to punish the head of the institute by closing the gate against her and she had to go back. And when the teachers expressed their solidarity with the head by not going to the class, the crowd, especially the leaders seemingly threatened them to get into the class.
Even the so-called secretary issued a notice the head not to allow the transferred teacher to join duty! And the poor teachers or the head were sufficiently feeling insecure to the extent that they expect step by step guidance from above! They seemingly don't know their constitutional powers! How to leave a class or school to such teachers who are almost threatened by such high handedness.
This trend has to change for the better running of the schools and for better results and well formed students with discipline and integrity.

Now, it is Anchuthengu School...

Our schools, one after another, are proving their calibre. Given necessary climate they can achieve still greater heights. St. Joseph's HSS, Anchuthengu has proven it in their limitted circle of Varkala Educational Sub-district by reaching fifth place scoring 100 points.
A notable achievement is by Master Jeevan Ram of +2 class in bagging the top slot in the Tamil verse recital competition. He recited a moving poem "Muthirkanni" of Vairamuthu from his best seller "Intha Pookkal Virpanaikkalla." He is the son of one of our teachers, Jessy Pereira, HM of the neighbouring St. Aloysious LPS, Mampally. Congratulations to the achievers and the school the teachers who trained them. Let this only be a beginning.
